Why We Built This

Digital PR has a fake expert problem. Too many “experts” quoted in major publications are fabricated personas, real people with exaggerated credentials, or stock photos with made-up names.

CitedExperts brings transparency to expert sourcing — an independent verification layer that journalists can trust and legitimate PR professionals can use to prove their experts are real.

Badge System

• No badge = Listed in directory, not yet verified
• 🟢 Expert Verified = The expert proved they own this profile
• 🛡️ Mod Verified = We checked that the expert exists outside of their media placements (LinkedIn, company website, professional body, etc.)
• ⚠️ Under Review = Flagged by community, currently being investigated
• ❌ Suspected Fake = Evidence suggests this expert may be fabricated or using false credentials

Claiming Your Profile

If you’re listed on CitedExperts and want to verify your profile:

1. Find your profile and click “Claim This Profile”
2. Enter your professional email to generate a verification code
3. Email us from your work/official email with the code, OR
4. Send us the code via LinkedIn message
5. We’ll verify and upgrade your status

Verification typically takes a few days. Complex cases (e.g., freelancers without company emails) may take longer as we verify through alternative means.

Community Trust Scores

Every profile has community voting. Journalists and PR professionals who have worked with an expert can vote on their credibility. This helps surface both trusted experts and potentially suspicious ones.

If a profile receives multiple negative votes or reports, it’s automatically flagged for review.

Full transparency: CitedExperts was created by the founder of Clickworthy, a digital PR agency.

To maintain the integrity of this directory:

• Clickworthy clients receive no preferential treatment in verification
• All verification decisions are documented and can withstand public scrutiny
• If Clickworthy or any partner agency has a commercial relationship with a listed expert, this will be clearly disclosed on their profile
• The verification criteria are the same for everyone, regardless of who submitted them

If you believe this independence has been compromised, please contact us immediately. The entire value of this directory depends on its neutrality.
